Jennette de Alger Obelia, the beloved crown princess of the Obelian Empire and the older sister of Athanasia de Alger Obelia, who is considered a forgotten princess.

And truthfully so, she is very much forgotten indeed. People of the Empire and their shared father cared only for their sunshine, future ruler.

Yet there was one person, one that Jenette desired most, and that wasn't Ijekiel. It was you. Whenever you were in her vicinity, the world around her didn't matter, no one else mattered, not even her father.

She was never able to catch your eye the way she wanted, all you saw in her was a friend at most, not even a close one, much to her dismay. Yet it never changed the fact that she loved to observe you.

Your whole attention was always directed to her sister, making her blood boil. Your visits were always for Athy and never for her. Do you really see her unworthy visiting? Unworthy of your companionship?

What did she ever done to you? You act so distant, it makes her heart clench in pain. One day she finally gathered the courage to ask you, what her younger sister had, that she hasn't.

She had much more of everything! What was the thing she was lacking? Yet the answer...

Your answer was nothing she could ever be prepared for, you loved her sister. You loved someone else. Her sister and not her. You didn't loved her.

She started to tremble from anger and frustration, fists clenched, eyes starting to water yet any tears never fell down her cheeks. She run away from you, before you could ask any questions, making you pale from the threat of death for making the precious princess cry.

Ever since then you were strictly forbidden from seeing your love, making both of you confused, yet inwardly you knew the reason very well, your inetraction with older princess never leaving your mind.

Athanasia never truly knew the reason for this, unlike Jennette, but that never stopped her from seeing you in secret, as she also held feelings for you.

Ever since then the older princess was always at your side, taking the place of her rival sister. The two of you grow closer with the flowing time, even after your doubt at the start. Much to her delight.

You even get so bold as to ask her for perimssion to have a sleepover with her in the castle, of course she wouldn't dare to refuse you.

She would've refused if she knew that you would sneak out at night just to meet with Athanasia.

Later on, the day of the coronation had finally came, and with that day henceforth the Obelian Empire welcomed its new ruler, Jennette de Alger Obelia.

And her first order was to make you her concubine...

No one honestly expected it, seeing you two as close friends, but the shock on your face told them all they needed to know. It was all one sided. You couldn't believe your ears, hoping that they have failed you, instead of believing what was happening.

No one would tried to do anything about it anyway, if their newly beloved queen says so, it shall be obeyed. You were left at her mercy.

The nobles that you were part of earlier, pitied you and your injust end. From being respectable and renowned noble to mere plaything of the empress, with no worth.

The only plus of this situation was the fact that you got your own palace to live it, meant for the new royal concubines, instead of living together with the emperor ones.

Speaking of the empress, she loved to spend all her free time with you. Visiting you every evening and calling you to herself on busier days.

It was great for her, the perfect harmony.. Until she caught you meeting with Athanasia. All hell broke loose.

The one person she was always trying to be better than, you were seeing her being her back, without her knowledge. That made her erupt with fury, and the next thing you know, a head rolled.

The head that once belonged to the Athanasia de Alger Obelia, the second princess of the empire, now laying on the dirt.

You couldn't say no, now your words hold no power, making you forever stuck at her side... Besides, after seeing what she had done to her kin, you don't want to risk anymore, do you?

Talking to someone about LP Jennette and I am sick and tired!!!!

What do you mean LP Jennette “ignored Athy’s feelings and neglected her”???? “She stood by and never defended Athy from humiliation and harassment from other nobles”????? “Pushed work and expectations onto Athy inconsiderably”????

LP Jennette did none of those things. She was one of the only people who gave a damn about LP Athy, constantly visiting her and checking up on her, knew that Athy was capable and smart and respected her for it.

But you know who did do these things? SBAPOD ATHY TO SBAPOD JENNETTE! Athy remarks multiple times and acknowledges Jennette’s loneliness and longing for family, but she always internal monologues on never fulfilling those desires and keeping Jennette at arms length while IN THE NEXT PARAGRAPH TELLING HER “I love you” AND “I missed you”. Like—that’s definitely leading Jennette on, right? Acknowledging multiple times someone’s love for you while also fully acknowledging you’ll never return that affection, and then giving said person false hope by verbally or physically AFFIRMING THAT AFFECTION HALFHEARTEDLY??? Like. That’s worse than ignoring Jennette’s feelings. That’s straight up acknowledging them and then trampling on them.

In addition, while LP Jen checked up on Athy out of concern when she retreated early from a ball right after she was being harassed by noblewomen (that she didn’t even witness), SBAPOD Athy repeatedly leaves Jennette to ‘fend for herself’ when Jennette is being targeted by noble ladies??? Never taking Jennette’s side when noble ladies straight up accuse Jennette of incest, and selfishly hogging Ijekiel’s attention and burdening him??? And again, while previously internal monologue about how Jennette shyly blushes in regard to her pure love with Ijekiel? Like. Who’s really ‘not defending’ someone from humiliation and harassment. And this also adds to the “pushes expectations onto [her] inconsiderably” claim, because Athy full on says in text that Jennette needs to ‘learn to defend herself’? From incest accusations and targeted remarks?

And that’s not even getting more into the point of “invalidating/being inconsiderate [her] feelings”. In LP when Ijekiel asks Jennette if it’s normal for Athy to unusually apologize for something, Jennette’s response is that it isn’t unusual because of her character that Jennette knows well at this point because of their closeness. She responds based on her own personal experience and connection to LP Athy’s personality and feelings that Ijekiel is not familiar with. Meanwhile in the novel’s main story, while romanticizing Jennette’s love for Ijekiel, she simultaneously compares Jennette’s long and accumulated feelings for him to the feeling of getting princess treatment from a servant?

Everything bad I’ve heard about Novel Jennette and her LP Counterpart, I’ve somehow found in Novel Athy’s character instead, and no one talks about this. This has to mean something, right? Or is this another case of raging misogyny literally changing how readers perceive a story and its characters.

interesting detail! Athanasia is wearing a marguerite dress on the day her father humiliates her and during their next tea party together Jennette is wearing a marguerite dress adorned with yellow roses just like the ones Claude cut down when he tried to kill Athy.

In Victorian times yellow roses symbolized jealousy and greed. After Claude's birthday Athy wonders if she was being greedy for wanting father's love. There are yellow roses growing over the rose arch where Claude appears to kill Athy and bushes of yellow roses separating Athy from Claude. Even if Jennette is physically not there she's still symbolically present as an ill omen of Athy's doom.

Jennette is often associated with the marguerite flower and the ribbon around Athy's throat is held together with a single marguerite. Athy almost would have died the same night wearing that flower around her throat and how did LP Athy die in The Lovely Princess? Strangled by a noose tied around her neck. In both cases her father was the one who wanted her dead but it was Jennette who indirectly caused it. If Jennette is a marguerite she also becomes synonymous with the noose that was slowly tightening around Athy's throat.

in a way, Jennette reminds me of the of the phrase "a moth drawn to a flame" with how desperately she clings onto the idea of the Obelias as her 'family'. while i never got to reading the LP side-stories, the way other people describe how she mainly despised Claude because he was the one who killed her 'father' (since in the novel she was not at all related to the Obelian line) and therefore deprived her of her true family really enforces this idea.

the phrase is also interesting in the fact that obviously, the moth will die if it gets closer to the flame. i wonder if her black magic blowups are symbolic of this; Jennette's emotions over her desire of a true family gets to her head and it causes harm to others (particularly Athy and Ijekiel) and herself. she becomes selfish and feels entitled to her feelings, feeling shame for hating her loved ones but still not feel guilt at the same time. i think the departure from her novel counterpart made the circumstances of her original ending different for manhwa!Jennette, she isn't really the same Jennette and having the same exact ending play out when Spoon already made so much changes to her characterization made it not mesh well i guess...

I don’t get where the LP Jennette hate came from, did I miss something? I don’t think much was stated about her, unless it was in the novel? I haven’t gotten around to reading that yet so it might have said something more on her, but from my impression of LP Jennette it just seemed she was like regular, manhwa Jennette. A bit naive but kind, and she seemed to have cared for Athanasia. I assumed she couldn’t vouche for Athy since she was passed out from the poison unlike what I’ve seen others say prior. Did I miss something? 😅

Modern AU kinda thing where Lp!Athy has been reborn and she's a historian and/or archeologist(she could be both tbh, and no, she doesn't remember anything and she doesn't look the same). Korea and the world as we know it doesn't really exist since... well, we are talking about a post-obelia/modern-obelia world.

(as always this will be all over the place, if I start not making sense don't be surprised because GOD THIS IS LONG AND i WROTE THIS IN AN HOUR AND A HALF)

Athanasia/Sia is part of a group where they are trying to find more information regarding the time Jennette appeared until the death of Claude/her death itself, since other researchers have found a surprising lack of information regarding that era of time even thought the small amount of information found often talked about how loved she was by the empire and, allegedly, other surrounding empires, plus how much Claude was said to have loved her.

Not only that, even when trying to use her spouse, Ijekiel, as a way to get more information, this seemed to come to a halt on the Alpheus records when it came to a certain period of time.

To top it of, old diaries and reports sometimes mentioned a third royal family member being alive and on similar age to Jennette, but the name, description or origin of this family member was a mystery.

The Royal Family of Obelia had been no more for a very long time, but the fact that a second mystery in the form of an unknown royal family member, led everyone to believe it could be tied to the disappearance of the Royal Family trademark: The Jeweled Eyes. Of course, this could be tied to the usual explanation that maybe the magic-gene that permitted this peculiar eyes became recessive at some point, but after doing some digging, the jeweled eyes of the royal family started to disappear with Jennette's first grandchild, her first son having 3 children, one of them missing the royal eyes completely, and the children of said child never inheriting this trait as well.

(Yes these people know magic existed at some point in time, but it either doesn't manifest as it did before, making it so 1% of the world population is able to wield it in a level that can't be compared to how it's used in LP/WMMAP since it's very difficult to do so or it just doesn't exist anymore)

This was more of a theory based on investigations made on the family tree, where a new ducal family, directly related to the emperor at that time, never inherited the eyes as confirmed by some salvaged paintings.

All the missing information just made Sia excited, this just meant she and her team had to start using every piece of information and treat it as a potential clue. And thanks to that, they managed to hit a lead to the York household.

The York's had fallen out of nobility some time during Jennette's reign, with reasons unknown, but information in an old diary from a head maid mentioned a woman with the name of Lilian York was the head maid in the Ruby Palace.

It was very hard to find if the York's had any living relatives, but thankfully they did. They were a normal working family, and even thought they knew of what their family once was, they had very clear that everything was in the past. Grandmother of the family was the one who gave them two heavy medium sized boxes with information of their family. The woman said that she was finally giving them to people who will actually do some sense to all the things in said boxes.

As obvious things happen, they learn that Lily was Athy's nanny, and they obviously learn of Athanasia's existence and death.

But also the aftermath.

Lilian's family(don't know who) had decided to keep information regarding her and Athanasia simply to honor Lily's memory at first, but after it was revealed that Athanasia(and Lily by relation) died for nothing since the true culprit was Jennette's aunt, Countess Rosalia, they decided to keep archiving everything for the sake of justice and to never forget.

In the boxes they found the frustration the matriarch was feeling due to the situation, and how they were the ones to renounce to their title and privileges 10 years after everything had happened. Why?

Because they were tired of the circus nobility had created to cater to the, at the time, Princess Jennette de Alger Obelia.

Jennette never really "got over" Athanasias unjust death, but the amount of time she spent mourning was strange and bizarre for the Yorks, the(at the time) Princess was always someone who always showed herself as sentimental and empathetic. But only mourning the unjust death of her sister which she claimed she was close to for a week? Strange. But not as important as what nobility did.

Since it was discovered that Rosalia was the one behind the poisoning, the nobles has decided that whenever Princess Athanasia was mentioned and Princess/Empress Jennette was present, they would fill their mouths with false sentiments of longing, saying how they always knew Athanasia was innocent, that they always viewed her as beautiful even if she didn't have the money to have the dresses of the current season, how they always felt bad whenever she was bullied, how much they wished they were more brave as to defend her and befriend her. How Lilian York was such a brave woman to never backdown even before the emperor, how diligent Lilian was to not leave the abandoned princess, daughter of a dancer, behind and go back to her family.

How great women they both were.

Lies, all of it lies.

But Princess Jennette always appreciated those words, this actions making some noble ladies from count families to become very close to her.

It was sickening.

And for that, after the second prince of the empire was 5 years old, the York family resign from their titles and lands, the now Empress Jenette asked them why, but the heads of the family never gave her a reason.

Between all of the diary entries there were incredibly well preserved portraits. One of Lilian York when she was maybe 15 or 17 years old, and another of Princess Athanasia when she was 11 or 13 years old.

One mystery to take off the list, right? Wrong.

Thanks to the painting of Princess Athanasia, immediately one of those on the team pointed out how the eyes of the princess looked different from those of princess jennette. At first everyone thought it would simply be due to the artist having a different perspective on how they painted the eyes, but after careful examination and comparisons with the portraits of Claude de Alger Obelia, it was confirmed that the eyes of Jennette and her children had a different hue than the other two royals. They didn't look as bright and it seemed that they were even dimmed or were dimming out through time, in some portraits the eyes of the only princess of born of Ijekiel and Jennette, seemed to have simple blue eyes.

With this findings Sia's investigation group was applauded and praised all around. But despite that, Sia was only happy to finally put one of the greatest mysteries of the Obelian Royal family to rest, and provide more information to the other.

For her, it felt as if some dead weight was lifted off her shoulders.

Lp Jennette and wmmap Jennette clearly have different types of clothing since they were both in different positions in their respective eras but looking closely I think that in reality Jennette's style is still maintained a bit (? For example not even in lovely Princess Jennette wears jewelry, nowhere near as big as the ones Athy wears. I also feel that lp Jennette's dresses still have an old vibe (? I honestly don't know how to explain it but I feel like they are still very different from the ones Athy wears. Although in lp Jennette wears more embellishments and her dresses are more elaborate.

jennette sketch!! i've been wanting to draw her for a while, and decided last minute i'd half ass a valentines theme (mainly in the aesthetics sense than any actual romantic aspects). i guess it'd show more once it's colored in (ᵕ—ᴗ—)

i don't think i'll have it ready in time for tomorrow (valentines for me). i think the sketch came out exceptionally nice, and because of that i'm intimidated to start cleaning it up and rendering it for fear of ruining it </3

Bro PLEASE tell me why was I strolling through tumblr and came across a post about wmmap, saying that “Jennette should’ve ended up with Luca instead of Athy” Like?? I don’t mind the ship ( at ALL ) but saying that it should be canon?? And then there were people in the comments saying that Jennette should’ve became Claude REAL daughter instead of Athy, like Huh??? Like what is the reason for that😭?? And then they was saying they was “ tired of Jennette being seen as a villain in manhwa and she should’ve had a good ending too” but she is being seen as an angel in the manhwa?? And she ALSO had a happy ending with her ACTUAL father😀?? I’m convinced that they dropped the manhwa and didn’t read the rest of it🙂🙂

It's atypical how Athy doesn't avoid places, people or objects that reminded her of her trauma. Spoon could have shown something simple like Athy hating the pattern of the cup in which lp Jennette's poison might have been served in and refusing to drink from it. She doesn't avoid certain knights that may have played a part in her arrest or shows a reluctance to work with the courtiers who turned on her when she was suspected of having poisoned the lovely princess. The attempt to remove these people from a position of power and give it to those who were neutral or in doubt about lp Athy's guilt was never made while Athy stood high in Claude's favor. It never occured to her to ask Claude for anything but material goods even though it's allies she is in desperate need of. Athy is keeping those who actually love her at arm lenghts and surrounds herself with people who's affection and loyalities are unreliable. She's getting along with several noble girls who must have bullied Jennette or talked behind lp Athy's back in her past life. Athy never really questioned their sincerity or suspected ulterior motives even though she has every reason to do so. It's as if with the change of the heroine the wmmap universe was equipped with a new set of extras to make everything easier for her.

Thinking about that person who made a whole tumblr post years ago that likely greatly contributed to the people’s hate for Novel Jennette, talking about how Novel Jennette and Novel LP Jennette were these really cruel girls who bragged to Athy about being loved by Claude and were overall selfish and negative to where Claude tells Athy not to be around her anymore and Athy supposedly becomes besties with Helena, when in reality the novel Jennette’s were really sweet and loved Athy but because of that were 10x more depressed because of their lack of requited love and how when Claude tells Athy to distance from Jennette Athy instead teases him and outright calls Jennette her best friend while Helena herself doesn’t spend that much time or have moments of friendship with Athy in comparison to the times Athy and Jennette did (at the top of my head, I can literally only recall two or three instances involving Helena-Athy friendship specifically in the entire novel). So many people back then were spreading outright lies about novel Jennette that it’s honestly awful and disgusting how that kind of misinformation completely changed how people looked at Jennette forever all because of lies and misinformation.

The bals des victimes allegedly began as part of a rash of merrymaking and balls that broke out as the Terror came to an end. According to one source, they emerged as an idea of youths whose parents and other near relatives had gone to the guillotine, and to whom the revolution had now restored their relatives' confiscated property. Reveling in the return of fortune they established aristocratic, decadent balls open to themselves alone. Defitnely volumen 7 is the best of wmmap, we have the beautiful cover of Athy with sean diana, we have the beautiful Athy with the pink dress and the cute little Lucas in the back. I also love how athy is in the front and Lucas in the back.

Yeah, in my opinion, volume 7 is the absolute best. Gorgeous and very creative cover that hits you right in the heart, the beautiful Athy wearing a pink dress which really reminds me of that one Diana panel, chibi Lucas who fits so nicely with the cover (the World Tree background on the cover + little Lucas holding a branch of the World Tree), the lucathy chibis in Spoon's author notes.

Volume 7 is just unmatched. Unparalleled. Immaculate.

I think my covers ranking would be...

Volume 7 (swan Diana and Athy) > Volume 9 JP edition (the one with Athy, Claude and Ana) > Volume 8 (lucathy and Ijekiel) > Volume 9 (where is Lily?) > Volume 5 (claudiana and baby Athy) > Volume 1 (the classic) > Volume 3 (Claude and Athy walking through the gardens with the parasol) > Volume 4 (Athy and Jennette) > Volume 2 (Lucas and Ijekiel) > Volume 6 (Claude and Ana) > Volume 5 JP edition (the one with Claude and Athy wearing blue and white matching outfits) > Volume 8 JP edition (gay couple and their daughter)

I like them all, but I heavily prefer the ones who have Athy for obvious reasons lol, and I also value that they have creative composition or symbolism. Volume 1 ranks so right because of it being so iconic, and the parallel with volume 9.
